Joe Casali Engineering, Inc. (JCE) was retained by the Town of Burrillville to provide engineering services to permit and design a 100’ x 70’ Skate Park on Chapel Street in Harrisville, Rhode Island. Site improvements include a gravel parking area, stormwater management, and landscaping.  JCE also assisted the Town in a land purchase for the site from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT).

JCE permitted the project through the Burrillville Planning Board, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) to alter a freshwater wetland and RIDOT for a Physical Alteration Permit  (PAP). 

 Joe Casali Engineering, Inc. (JCE) was hired by the Town of Burrillville to provide professional civil engineering design services for the Duck Pond Trail Improvements in Burrillville, Rhode Island. Site improvements included widening an existing gravel pedestrian path from 6-feet to a 10-foot paved path to accommodate bicycle traffic along with associated drainage improvements. Best Management Practices that were implemented include a sand filter and sediment forebay to mitigate the increase in stormwater runoff associated with the increase in impervious areas and to provide water quality.  JCE developed design plans and details with a minimal limit of disturbance to minimize impacts to the 100’ riverbank buffer of an unnamed stream.

JCE permitted the project through the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) via a Preliminary Determination application and received an Insignificant Alteration (to freshwater wetlands)  Permit.   

Joe Casali Engineering, Inc. (JCE) teamed with LSC Environmental Consulting of Scituate, Rhode Island to complete a wetland restoration project in response to a Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) Notice of Violation (NOV) on a 34 acre site consisting of two abutting residential properties in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Various wetlands are located within the subject parcels; forested swamp, forested wetland, and scrub shrub wetland and their associated Perimeter and Riverbank Wetlands. Disturbances to the wetlands included diverting of a stream at two locations, a footbridge crossing the stream, and landscaping debris deposited within jurisdictional wetlands. Approximately 42,000 square feet of disturbed wetlands, 283 linear feet of a stream and 230 linear feet of a brook were restored.

JCE’s responsibilities included preparing plans in accordance with RIDEM Regulations and the project specific for NOV, Rhode Island Erosion and Sediment Control Handbook, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s River Corridor and Wetland Restoration Guidelines. The plans were designed to be completed in multiple phases. JCE and LSC Environmental Consulting made periodic site visits during restoration activities to monitor and document progress. Native shrubs and herbaceous seeds were planted within the disturbed areas of the wetland buffer.  The project will be monitored for at least three growing seasons to ensure the success of the restoration efforts. 

Joe Casali Engineering, Inc. (JCE) designed a private family compound on approximately 46 acres of land in Burrillville, Rhode Island. JCE evaluated existing conditions and designed the layout for a four lot private family compound. Professional services included 930 linear feet of roadway with a cul-de-sac and a bridge crossing.

JCE procured a formal Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Division of Freshwater wetland permit to alter freshwater wetlands for the bridge crossing and a site suitability permit for the individual on-site waste water treatment systems. Other permits/approvals were procured from the Town of Burrillville Planning and Engineering Departments.
